In the event of an emergency (e.g. fire, severe injury, environmental hazard, intruder):

  1. Assess and Contain

    • Identify the nature and severity of the emergency.

    • Contain the situation safely if possible (e.g. use a fire blanket/extinguisher for minor fires).

    • Do not put yourself or others at unnecessary risk.

  2. Evacuate or Secure

    • Follow the appropriate procedure (evacuation or lockdown).

    • Evacuate children calmly to the designated assembly point (for fire) or move to a safe area (for lockdown).

    • Conduct a headcount and check registers.

  3. Call Emergency Services

    • Dial 999 if there is any risk to life or immediate danger.

    • For medical advice in non-life-threatening situations, call NHS 111.

  4. Administer First Aid

    • If necessary, trained staff will administer emergency First Aid while awaiting further help.

    • Record all treatment in the Accident/Incident Book.

  5. Contact Parents/Guardians

    • Once the immediate situation is safe, parents/emergency contacts will be informed as soon as possible.

  6. Incident Recording & Follow-Up

    • All emergencies are recorded using the Incident Log.

    • Reports are submitted to relevant authorities (Ofsted, Local Authority Designated Officer) as required.
