Outings Policy

TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS NURSERY Outings Policy

At Truly Scrumptious, we believe that outings are a valuable part of children’s learning and development. They provide opportunities to explore the wider world, build social skills, and engage with their local community. Our aim is to ensure that all children have equal access to enriching experiences outside the nursery setting.

Purpose of Outings

Outings are planned to enhance children’s learning through real-world experiences. These may include trips on foot to locations such as:

  • Local parks

  • Libraries

  • Markets

  • Places of cultural or educational interest

Safety and Procedures

To ensure the safety and well-being of all children during outings, the following procedures must be strictly followed:

  1. Risk Assessment

    • A full risk assessment must be completed and documented prior to any outing.

  2. Parental Consent

    • Written permission must be obtained from parents/carers for each outing.

  3. Staffing Ratios

    • Appropriate staff-to-child ratios must be maintained at all times in accordance with statutory requirements.

  4. Child Supervision

    • Younger children will be transported in pushchairs.

    • Older children will be safely secured using a Walkodile or similar safety equipment.

  5. Emergency Information

    • A list of each child’s emergency contact details must be taken on the outing.

  6. First Aid

    • At least one qualified first aider must accompany the group.

    • A fully stocked first aid kit must be taken on the outing.

  7. Medical Needs

    • Any child with a health care plan must have their plan and any required medication with them (e.g., asthma inhalers, EpiPens).

  8. Communication

    • A designated staff member must carry the nursery mobile phone, which should be fully charged and have sufficient credit.

    • The mobile phone is for emergency use only and must not be used for personal calls or messages during the outing.

Staff Responsibilities

  • Ensure children are accounted for at all times.

  • Follow the planned itinerary and safety procedures.

  • Report any incidents or concerns to management immediately upon return.
